Head of School

Wow, what energy for the first week of school – for our official half-day start on Thursday for K-12, as well as our regular Friday schedule this past week. We will be in full swing on Monday as we welcome back our youngest students in the 3s, 4s, Pre-K, and JrK.  Thank you to those of you who participated in the many opening week activities.  Also, thank you for all the behind-the-scenes home efforts leading up to the start of the year, including school supply shopping, lunch packing, drop-off and pick-up scheduling, and, of course, first-day family picture taking.

As I shared on Thursday morning, we are designed by God to be in community, bearing his image to one another.  Each of our children is blessed to be surrounded by a home, church, and school community in which to be seen and known.  As we begin the school year, have conversations with your child about how they may want to get involved in DC communities in age-appropriate ways.

At Denver Christian, these communities will look different for different students. For some, it will be auditioning for one of our productions.  For others, it may look like trying out for a team in our Middle School or High School athletics programs.  Or perhaps joining a club.  Whatever your child’s passion, I encourage you to help them pursue it in community with others in our DC family.  Every year, students report that participating in a community beyond the school day enriches their experience and makes them feel more connected to their school.

In addition to participating in these communities, we also have the opportunity as a whole Denver Christian community to support each other and the teams, ensembles, and groups our students participate in.  In addition to school being in full swing, our fall athletics season is as well.  On campus this week, Girls’ Volleyball takes on Colorado Academy on Thursday evening, and Boys’ Soccer kicks off in a Friday and Saturday tournament.  On Friday the 29th, cross country opens its season in DeKoevend Park against Arapahoe High School, and the cheer and football opener is under the DC lights the same day at 7:00 pm. Golf has already started its season, and its next match is tomorrow against Peak-to-Peak at Flatiron Golf Course. This year, admission to regular-season home games is free for DC students and any extended family wearing DC gear! A little later this semester, production and concert season will gear up as well.

I hope you have the opportunity to support our Denver Christian students through the fall and see the fruits of their efforts.  Roll thunder!
