Denver Christian’s mission is to inspire and equip children of Christian parents to engage the world with Christ’s transforming power and love. This flows from what God has been doing since the opening chapters of His story. He has built a community that transcends time, location, and nationality, and He forms His children to flourish as they follow Him.
As teachers, parents, and community members, our mission defines our work and enables us to move forward faithfully. Depending on God, we strive to create space for the next generation of students to practice, learn, and grow, ready to take their place in God’s world.
God has always worked through families. In Deuteronomy, Moses tells the people of Israel to keep God’s commands close, to talk about them at home and on the road, when they lie down and when they rise. “Impress them on your children,” he says. God promised Abraham that all people would be blessed through his family. While personal, it was never a private arrangement between God and one person. It was a covenant, a promise that ran through generations.
Denver Christian School partners with parents who are looking for a community in which to raise their children in faith. While parents are the primary formers, we want to stand alongside you, helping integrate your child’s experience with God’s story and God’s world.
But the story does not stop there. When God sent His people into exile in Babylon, He gave them a strange instruction through the prophet Jeremiah. He told them to seek the welfare of the city where they had been sent and to pray for it, because its welfare would be their welfare too. God’s people were never meant to withdraw from the world around them. They were sent into it, for its good.
Jesus said the same thing to His followers. “You are salt and light,” He told them. Salt does not do its work hanging out with other salt. It flavors and preserves everything it comes in contact with. Light does not do its work hidden under a basket. It illuminates what is in its path. Both only matter in relation to how they engage with the world around them.
That is the second part of our mission: engaging the world. We are not raising children to hide from culture or simply survive it. We are equipping them to walk into it with confidence, compassion, and curiosity; preparing them to enter into classrooms, workplaces, and neighborhoods they have not even imagined yet.
Put those two concepts together, and you get our whole reason for existing. Our community gives our mission roots and identity. Engagement gives it reach and shapes how our students are formed. Neither works alone. A community with no aim toward forming students becomes comfortable and inward. Formation not rooted in community becomes isolating and disconnected. Denver Christian holds both together with intentionality.
We are called to be a people who remember and retell stories of God’s faithfulness to the next generation. If you are reading this as a parent in our community, would you tell your child a story from your own life when you saw God at work? It does not need to be dramatic, just specific. Let your child ask questions. Then ask them if they have noticed God working in their own life lately.
This is the space we are creating. It is what happens when a school takes seriously that children are image bearers and forms them, one year at a time, in partnership with the families who love them and know them best. I am grateful for your support and partnership in Denver Christian’s mission.
