From Michael’s Desk

Head of School

Spring is the time of year when schools begin planning and budgeting for next year. Christian schools have a few financial levers to help fund the education they provide: tuition and fees, annual or loyalty funds, and capital campaigns.  As you know, at DC, tuition and fees are set toward the end of the calendar year for the following school year. These increases almost exclusively go to faculty and staff salaries and benefits. Our loyalty fund drive – which bridges the gap between tuition and the true cost of a Denver Christian education – culminates with our parent auction after spring break.  And, as you read about a couple of weeks ago, and can again here, we are poised to begin the campaign for our new high school building in the coming months. For those of you who are interested, I want to offer a deeper dive into each of these levers of school finance and how they work in independent Christian schools in this video.

Also, I’d love to connect in person at a few upcoming events.  I will be hosting Tuesday Talks every other Tuesday after morning carline and before pickup, beginning March 17th.  See the dates and times and sign up here to join our discussions for one or more of these topics:

  • Bearing God’s Image: being human in a technologically fast-paced and AI world
  • The Call to Whole Child and World-Class Education
  • Building a school community that is distinctly together: holding many perspectives in one Christ-centered mission.

Finally, if you are a Middle School parent or family member, I am hosting a Middle School Mingle in Thunder Cafe pre-chapel on March 19th, April 2nd, and April 23rd from 9:10 am-9:40 am. I’d love to say hi and then head to the MS chapel with you.  Despite what they say, your children, even though they are older, still love it when they see you around the school, including at chapel.
