As we transition from fall to winter sports, we wanted to highlight the accomplishments of our girl’s volleyball team. After a summer of preparation, our team had an incredible season, making it to the state championship last week. We are proud of their competitive success and the culture that they have built as a team.
Competitive Excellence in Athletics
This season, the girls went undefeated, winning the Mile High League with a 12-0 record. Our team navigated the season with grace and flexibility. “We had a dynamic team that was very flexible. If someone would get hurt we could change and thing wouldn’t change that much.” -Erica Bol (Senior)
After eleven fantastic games, our girls carried so much energy and excitement in their final game against Lyons. Courtney Johnson (Junior) says this game was her favorite of the entire season:
“The most memorable game was our last game against Lyons. We went into their gym and played our best game of the season. We all worked together and took care of business.”
Courtney Johnson (Junior)
This led the team to regionals, where they competed as the 9th seed, beating #28 Telluride and #16 Byers. The victory at regionals brought our team to state in Colorado Springs. Our girls had an incredible first round where they won. Our girls were eliminated by the #1 seed and state champion, Sedgwick county.
Team Culture and Character in Denver Christian Athletics
After being eliminated, the team showed incredible spirit and character. Despite the disappointment of losing, our girls sat in the locker and shared something that they noticed and appreciated about each other as teammates. This character and positivity is what we are so proud about in this accomplished team. Character is more than giving the other team high fives, but learning how to grow in trust for your teammates and courage through successes and failures.
We are so thankful for Leanne Bartz who stepped up as our new coach during this season. She is beloved at Denver Christian for the energy and fun she brings as our art teacher and student council co-sponsor. It turns out she’s a pretty great coach too! Our JV and C team coaches, Gabi Allead and Madison DeYoung, also did a fantastic job coaching our students.
“I love how much effort she put into connecting with each one of us and becoming personal with the team. She has given us each a great environment for playing volleyball and connecting with our teammates!”
Congratulations to the Denver Christian Volleyball Team!
