A Tremendous Season for DC Cheer

The Denver Christian Cheer Team continued to create a legacy this last season. Since bringing back cheerleading in 2021, coach Gina Harris has led our team to three back-to-back State Championships. In addition to their resounding success throughout the competition season, our cheer team continues to build community as a team and radiate the glory of God.

A Strong Competitive Season

The competition season started in October. The Varsity team went undefeated at all the competitions in the 2A and 3A divisions. Seeking to prove themselves in a more challenging setting, the Varsity team competed in two competitions with 4A and 5A schools. They placed 2nd and 4th at those competitions.

After winning their State Championship in December, our team also traveled to NCA Nationals in Texas for the first time in program history. There were over 460 teams represented at nationals. Denver Christian Cheer placed 4th in their division. They were the highest scoring team from Colorado. Chatfield High and Golden were also present and the teams supported each other well!

When our team re-started in 2021, we had 21 cheerleaders. This year, the team grew large enough that we added a Junior Varsity team. The JV Cheer Team represented Denver Christian for the first time at the JV State Invitational and they won 1st place. The season also included individual victories for Ella Herring and Abigail Snow, who were both First Team All State.

Bringing Cheer to Athletic Events

The Cheer Team also enjoyed cheering on the incredible DC football and basketball teams. One of the biggest highlights of the year are the junior cheer camps that we lead. The enthusiasm from the participants is contagious and inspiring. Adleigh Hagestad (Cheer Captain Junior) says that “Football season is such a fun time to really get in the cheer mood and have fun team dinners.”

Growing as a Cheer Program

Most importantly, the Cheer Team continued to grow spiritually as a team and individually.  They continued to radiate the Glory of God at every competition. Gina Harris, our cheer coach, says that the team is thankful for the support that the team continues to receive from the school as they grow as a program.

I have learned a lot about myself through cheer like my ability to pick up things quickly and have patience. I have also found a new leadership side of myself through using my knowledge to help teach new cheerleaders. The things I have learned are far deeper than what I take to practice or put out on the mat, many are things I will use and remember for the rest of my life.

Our athletics program at Denver Christian has continued to grow every year. The cheer team is a wonderful example of our incredible coaches and student athletes, and the work that they put in each season.
