Bringing Back Denver Christian Football Fall of 2019
Denver Christian is excited to announce the hiring of Dirk Visser as our head football coach as we restart our program as an 8-man team for the 2019 season. Coach Visser brings over 20 years of football coaching experience as a head coach, defensive coordinator, and assistant coach in multiple programs. Barb Landhuis, athletic director, states, “After reviewing over 50 applicants for this position, it became abundantly clear that none of these applicants had the experience and missional connection to Denver Christian that Coach Visser brings. God has truly orchestrated this by bringing Dirk Visser to Denver Christian for such a time as this.” Clearly, God has prepared Coach Visser to be Denver Christian’s head football coach, and we are excited to field a football team again next fall.
Coach Visser began his coaching career in 1987 at Widefield High School in Colorado Springs where he worked with linebackers and defensive ends as well as serving as defensive coordinator over a 9 year period. The Widefield Gladiators won their league championship 7 times during that time and qualified for the state playoffs every year. After coaching at Pomona High School (2 years) and Wheat Ridge High School (1 year), Coach Visser returned to his alma mater Columbine High School in the fall of 1999. During his 10 years on the Columbine Rebel staff he continued working with linebackers and co-coordinating the defense. He would later coach defensive line as well as tight ends and wingbacks. Columbine won multiple league titles and 4 state championships while Visser was part of the coaching staff. “I was so fortunate to have been able to be part of such a great program at Columbine. God certainly blessed me and us with a lot of success.” Using his vast experience as both a head coach and a defensive coordinator, Visser reflects on his role at Denver Christian: “I really believe that God has called me to help Denver Christian develop their football program. It is my hope and prayer that He uses me to help build student athletes who are of ever strengthening faith and character.”
Visser has also coached track and field, baseball, cross country, and girl’s lacrosse in his career. Coach Visser has been married to his awesome wife Peige for 28 years. They have two children, son Zachary who is in the US Navy stationed in San Diego, and daughter, Jordan, who is working and attending graduate school in Cincinnati.
Dirk is currently in his second year of teaching in the HS math department at Denver Christian. Please join us in welcoming Dirk Visser to the Denver Christian coaching community.
