Heritage

Since a small group of committed Christian parents and pastors combined their resources to realize the vision of a Christian day school, Denver Christian School has been partnering with Christian families in the Denver metro area to educate and challenge young people for a life of Christian service.  Since 1916, Denver Christian alumni have led and served in homes, businesses, churches, and communities across the nation and the world.

History

Denver Christian began educating students in 1st grade through 8th grade at their first building on the corner of Florida and Clarkston.  In 1945 they expanded to include high school students, and in 1950 opened a high school campus on Pearl Street.  The VanDellen campus opened in 1959 and expanded to include preschool in 1976, and in 1988 Denver Christian expanded to include the Highlands Ranch campus. In 2014, Denver Christian consolidated their entire preschool – 12th grade student body onto one campus into their current location on Teller Street in Lakewood.

Governance

Denver Christian School is overseen by a parent-run school Board of Trustees.  Board members are nominated by the Society, comprised of tuition-paying parents and financial supporters of the school, and selected for their personal commitment to Denver Christian as well as the school’s immediate and future needs. The Board of Trustees promotes the school’s mission, appoints and oversees the Head of School, establishes broad policies, plans strategically for the future, and stewards financial and capital resources. The full board meets regularly to receive reports from the Head of School, vote on mission directed  issues, and receive input from the Society.
