Boys High School Basketball
The DC Boys Basketball program emphasizes the growth of our players, growth as Christian men, servant leaders, and basketball players. As coaches, we seek to put the players first, by focusing on giving them a positive and uplifting experience throughout the years that they participate. Our goal is that when players graduate, they look back at their time playing basketball, and say they had fun, were known, and grew in the knowledge and love of the Lord.
Girls High School Basketball
The girls program at Denver Christian is striving to mentor girls in both their basketball skills and their walk with Christ. Coaches work to enhance the basic skills of the players, ball handling, shooting, and passing. As these develop, the players knowledge of the game, situational understanding, and offensive/defensive work is focused on. Teamwork and self discipline are also two other important themes of the program. These are stressed not only in their work on the court but also in their spiritual life. Overall, Denver Christian girls basketball players are encouraged to do everything to the glory of God.
Denver Christian High School Basketball Coaches:
“I have had the blessing of being able to teach and coach at Denver Christian since graduating from Dordt College in 2009. Before that, I attended Unity Christian High School in Orange City, Iowa.”
Kelvin is a Montana native but would consider Colorado his second home because a majority of his life was spent in Eastern Colorado. He is a sports fanatic having played football, basketball and track in high school and eventually went on to play a year of college football back in his home state of Montana before an injury would alter his plans. He eventually transferred to the University of Northern Colorado where he completed a degree in Sports and Exercise Science with an emphasis in K-12 Physical Education. Kelvin’s experience in coaching includes 3 years as an assistant varsity football coach, 2.5 years as an assistant varsity boys basketball coach, 1 year as an assistant varsity girls basketball coach, and 1 year as an assistant varsity track and field coach. After teaching elementary physical education and coaching at Resurrection Christian School in Loveland, Kelvin and his wife, Teryn, moved overseas to London, U.K. for one year to serve as apprentices at All Souls Church, Langham Place. God used this experience to lead both of them back to Colorado where Kelvin is now attending Denver Seminary and is working on completing a Master’s of Divinity degree. He is also currently serving as the middle school intern pastor at Centennial Covenant Church in Littleton.
