All children learn differently. While some excel in academics or social-emotional areas, others may need more guidance and support. The Denver Christian community believes all students can thrive in an environment of acceptance, understanding, and support. The Extend team includes Master’s level special education teachers, counselors, lead learning lab specialists, teachers, aides, and paraprofessionals who all walk alongside students. Along with world-class academics, Denver Christian offers three programs to help all students reach their potential as seen below.
Students who access the Extend Learning Services Program will occur additional costs to maintain paperwork and provide services. At this time we have a waitlist for students that will need the Extend Program. Please contact cjohnson@denverchristian.org or ldeboer@denverchristian.org with questions.
Extend
Each of our levels, PK-5, 6-8, and 9-12 have a dedicated special education teacher assisting students entering with IEP’s, 504’s, or Accommodation Plans. Our staff also develops and implements accommodations identified through previous assessment. Classroom aides work alongside kindergarten through fifth-grade teachers allowing more opportunities for small group and individualized teacher instruction. Two learning labs, math/science, and language arts are staffed by specialists in their field and are available to all students in grades six through twelve
Inclusion
Part of a community that values an environment of acceptance and understanding means that all students are included. The Inclusion program provides students requiring a higher level of support the opportunity to be fully immersed in Denver Christian’s school culture. Students attend classes alongside their peers with the support of a paraprofessional, have opportunities for off and on-campus work internships, are provided classes addressing daily life-skills, and experience lessons on transitioning past high school. Inclusion students have access to these resources depending upon identified need.
Quest
Student needs can look very different. Some students thrive when given a deeper challenge. Denver Christian’s Quest program challenges identified high ability students with discussions addressing items such as how to practice healthy habits of mind like persistence, striving for accuracy, listening with empathy, taking responsible risks, and thinking about things at a more challenging level. The Quest staff includes a certified gifted and talented instructor and a lead teacher and is offered to qualifying students in grades three through eight.
