Honors Programs

National Honors Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) chapter at Denver Christian School celebrates our outstanding students.  High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible for induction into the NHS when they demonstrate excellence in the following area:

  • Scholarship (3.5 gpa)
  • Leadership
  • Service (20 hours of community service)
  • Character

The National Honor Society students impact the school through truly being leaders inside and outside of the classroom and serving their classmates and the greater community.

Honors Curriculum

The high school program includes honors courses in the following subject areas:

  • English – Poetry I & II; Fiction I & II
  • World Languages – Spanish IV
  • Science – Advanced Chemistry, Advanced Biology, Physics
  • Mathematics – Calculus, Advanced Statistics
  • History – US Government and Politics
  • Religion & Worldview – Apologetics, Senior Seminar
  • Fine Arts – Studio Art

These courses are taught with the rigor of a college course and are graded on a weighted (5.0) scale.

Advanced Placement – We do not offer traditional AP courses because our college preparatory program is by nature advanced.  We encourage students to take AP exams at the end of their junior and senior years and students have done well over the years in the following AP exams:

  • English Literature and Composition
  • English Language and Composition
  • Calculus AB
  • US History

Dual Enrollment – Due to the rigor of our honors program, three of our courses have been approved by Colorado Christian University as official college courses.  Students who successfully complete these courses receive college credit from CCU after graduation.  This college credit can be transferred to any institution of higher education.  The dual enrolled courses that we currently offer are :

  • Calculus
  • Advanced Chemistry
  • Spanish 4
  • Poetry & Drama
