Julie Cumming

Primary Role at DC: High School - Math

Education/Degrees Held: BS in Secondary Education/Math Major Central Michigan University MA in Mathematics University of Northern Colorado

Mrs. Cumming currently teaches Introduction to Statistics at Arapahoe Community College. As a teacher, she enjoys the challenge of building student’s confidence in math, making real world connections and making learning fun. With two children attending Denver Christian, Matthew, a 4th grader and Emma, a 6th grader, she was excited about the opportunity to volunteer her time to help high school students with math in the Extend Program. Little did she know that God would open the door for her to teach math in a long-term substitute position. She felt it was God’s timing and a blessing as a breast cancer survivor, to help another teacher going through what she did five years ago. She is always in awe of how God orchestrates situations in our lives. Although she has taught math for over twenty years in middle school, high school and college at a variety of public schools, she has never had the privilege to teach at a school with such a caring atmosphere and such high academic standards. As a parent, she has always thought DC was a wonderful school, but to really experience it from the inside and see God’s love shine through the students and staff has been an amazing experience for her. In her free time she loves traveling, photography, hiking, skiing and spending time with her family.
